3-Day-Invasion Ma-Ka Communication Breakdown

9 / 11 / 2018

Ausstellungseröffnung: Donnerstag, 15. 11. 2018, 19 Uhr

The new painting and drawings by the artist Ma-Ka address the concept of misunderstanding, misinterpretation and breaking down of communication in our contemporary social life. Starting point for this process is a dream the artist had since childhood: A stickman is running laps alone on a track in silence and in peace. Suddenly an unorderly group of stickmen start to slowly catch up on the front runner. The horrifying moment for the artists is, when the silence and order and peace of one stickman is destroyed by the hassle and chaos of many.

When chaos engulfs the space, or in this case the surface of a paper, no-one is themselves anymore, and everyone is speaking a different language. There are no facts or meanings anymore, only colored vague interpretations. Broken messages are changed en route, like in the children’s game of where a message goes around a group by whispering and changes completely before reaching the end.

Thick black lines are building patterns on paper. They want to say something, but too loud and too much at the same time. Characters are drowning in the information that is not there. Chaos is carnevalising and banalizing our life and society.
